Bagasse is the name for the residual fibers that remain after extracting sugarcane juice for sugar production. Rather than throwing away or burning sugarcane stalks, the pulp is made into paper-like substance called Bagasse. Bagasse can be molded into different shapes and products that are perfect for food service packaging.
Sugarcane is a very fast renewable resource for which no trees have to be cut down. As a by-product of the sugar production, bagasse does not require additional cultivation areas and has no impact on the area of forests. Bagasse waste are often burned in the fields creating pollution when not in use. Instead it can be used to manufacturer eco-friendly food service products replacing traditional paper, plastics and Styrofoam products. Bagasse also requires less energy to manufacturer than plastics products, thereby making it more energy efficient to produce. By adopting bagasse products, we are pledging to help reduce pollution and energy consumption. Bagasse sugarcane plates, bowls and food containers are a safer and more environmentally responsible alternative for the food service industry.
Bagasse Sugarcane products biodegrade very quick within 90 days whereas plastics will take up to 500 years to degrade and Styrofoam never degrades. These Bagasse products are stable, sturdy and not very flexible which makes these food service products easy to use.
